Learning Outcome 4 (U3): Be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief (M4, D1)

Learning Outcome 4 (U3): Be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief.

I have exported both front page cover and double page spread into a JPEG. I did this by clicking the file, save as and change the format from photoshop to a JPEG. I exported into a JPEG because I need to access it online and that is an explicit requirement in the brief. It, therefore, meets the brief, as its now in a JPEG format its easy to access on all platforms.

Brief Report:

My music magazine meets the client brief in numerous ways. Firstly, the client brief states the magazine needs to be available online. On the Front Cover, I incorporated a website which outlines and makes online editions available. The main Artist featured is an upcoming artist. Megan Cooper had a humble upbringing in North London, Camden. This suggested the developing local talent within North London.  Another feature on my front page is rating the biggest North London music stores and hotspots. This reiterates where the magazine is based. Moreover, enabling readers to gain knowledge in London.

Furthermore, featuring a guitar on the front page makes readers aware of the music genre chosen, acoustic. This genre was chosen due to its rise in popularity because of artists like George Ezra and Ed Sheeran creating great exposure. Acoustic hotspots for the year mentioned above makes the reader aware and learn about new experiences and venues within North London.

An implicit requirement mentioned in the client Brief was "vibrant music scene" suggesting the magazine should be aimed at a younger audience. My primary target audience is 16-20-year-olds. The language used was adjusted so it fits the needs of my target audience. Moreover, My chosen artist is currently 23-year-olds. The audience can relate to the artist's style and fashion.

Changing the background:

I was able to change the image to a light blue, using the saturation option. This change happened due to it fitting the brief better than having a bland background before. Moreover, an implicit requirement stated in the brief states, a vibrant music scene. By changing the background colour makes the magazine unique and creates meaning for my target Audience. Even though the rustic colour before fitted the genre of Acoustic, it didn't represent Pop. I tailored to the audience needs by adapting the blue colour. It was on lower saturation to make the colour not too bright to represent Acoustic Pop.

Creating a Text box and applying the stroke effect:

In the making of the front cover and double page spread the text box tool was used frequently throughout. By adding the boxes it allowed me to use my fonts for text and apply a range of effects. An example of which is the Stroke effect. This was a crucial part for my magazine to be made into printed and online fully published as stated in the brief. Without the textboxes, I wouldn't be able to inform the reader about the music scene developing locally in North London. The stroke effect was added for the Primary and secondary target groups. It makes it stand out and does not conflict the acoustic Pop genre.

Editing of photographs:

Using the magnetic lasso and magic wand tool, I managed to crop out the main image and insert the model onto my double page spread and front cover. The magnetic lasso tool made me able to outline the model and with help from the magic wand tool was able to cut all spaces and gaps. This made the model stand out(above) on the double page spread. Without these tools would make me unable to meet a part of the brief of featuring artists located in North London.  It also was key to meet the target audiences preferences on Acoustic Pop genre. These tools enabled me to outline the guitar so it was able to feature on the double page spread.

Adding Columns and able to put text around the guitar:

The pen tool and anchor point tool enabled me to position the text to go around the guitar on the double page spread. When I made a mistake I used delete anchor point. These tools made my magazine stand out and look polished. As the text went around the guitar, it underlined the importance of the guitar being featured on the double page spread. Moreover, this catered the needs of the target audience for acoustic pop. It also enabled me to fit the brief as it made my double page become complete with the interview with upcoming artist Megan Cooper.

Adding the strap  lines and bubbles:

The gradient tool(fill),  the ellipse tool and rectangle tool were used in the making of the magazine Unplugged. These tools added shapes and the fill tool provided the colour, it enabled me to make the straplines and taglines stand out.

Furthermore, it was used heavily in order to create the first edition of the magazine and as stated in the brief enabled me to mention venues and events happening in North London. This gave the target audience an insight into what will be featured in the magazine and for example the acoustic hot spots for 2019. The fill tool added colour and made it stand out for the readers. Lastly, the ellipse tool informed the acoustic pop audience that there is a discount and knowledge on venues and Megans songs by using the QR code featured in the magazine.

How my final media product met the original proposal:

Unplugged's final product was heavily influenced by the proposal made. The only change was the fonts used in Unplugged. This slight amendment to the proposal was due to the feedback I recieved from client feedback. It made me notice how i need to imagine all the fonts on one page layed out, and test if the ideas complement each other. Furthermore, Vogue was not original content as referred in the brief.

Apart from this amendment, the proposal was met and enabled me to create the final product. The genre was kept throughout of acoustic pop. In addition, the initial ideas for the content i would feature in my magazine inspired more relevant final ideas. Including gig guides, venues being rated and introducing the readers to new music.

Lastly, a key decision was the target audience which heavily influenced all the features in my magazine.
