Unplugged final pitch script:
Feedback:
Address the gender Bias within the acoustic pop genre making it for both men and women
Correction:
This would expand my target audience, as my magazine would appeal to both genders. My secondary target audience targets men and women, so this balances it out. I will ensure that I will use gender neutral colours that will feature on unplugged. This feedback has impacted the choice of colour scheme Unplugged will feature. The colour palettes and also the artists picked to feature in Unplugged. For example, having a mix of male and female artists representing both genres;

Feedback:
Reconsider the fonts being used
Correction:
After, listening to comments made on the font I may be changing the Vogue that's being used for straplines. As it states in the brief this should use original content. This font is already well known in other magazines. I will ensure that the new strapline will follow the stripped back acoustic theme. Furthermore, The font called Vogue is the same as the one used on Vogue Magazine. In addition, he mentioned placing the fonts all on one page to see if they go together. This helped me understand that they don't compliment each other seeing the fonts I choose in a different light. This feedback made me understand the importance of the fonts chosen.
3:
Feedback:
Moodboard colour palette- (in brief about pre-production material)
Correction:
My mood board has a clear pop feminine theme through the magazine competition I used. After listening to feedback I would make adjustments to make sure my mood board suits the genre of acoustic pop. The colours are too strong and stand out too much for a magazine that represents the Acoustic genre as well as pop. So, after feedback, the colour palette that will be used is under review and feature rustic colours for the acoustic genre so there is a balance.
4:
Feedback:
Could the acoustic Pop genre be confusing to the reader?
Correction:
The magazine will represent Acoustic pop and will incorporate both. For example, Ed Sheeran has acoustic style however it is pop. To make it not confusing for the reader, Unplugged on certain weeks would feature a pop artist or acoustic artist and then write articles of the other genre not used. This creates balance within the magazine.
5:
Feedback:
Ensure that you have all Personnel needed to make unplugged
Correction:
I will make this correction to make sure I will have a clear list of personnel I need for Unplugged. This will reduce any time wasted on finding out what else is needed for my magazine. By creating a plan and Gantt chart will enable and ensure no mistakes are made. Furthermore, what personnel we need on certain weeks to do certain tasks. This feedback made me realise how important it is to have a plan so you not waste any time in the process of production.
6:
Feedback:
How can readers access the online magazine edition? (online format- a requirement in the brief)
Correction:
I will ensure that there will be links on the print base magazine and a website so those who have subscribed will be able to access online editions easily. This will be implemented by including a social media section. In addition to this through research of my competitors, they usually place links to their website underneath the masthead. So, the website will be underneath Unplugged and in a font such as a san serif font.
7:
Feedback:
Ensure that all artists will be from North London(a requirement in brief)
Correction:
I will make sure that all artists that feature in my magazine will be from North London. This would be a major USP for my magazine as no their competitors feature artists from North London. For example, I could use Freya Ridings. I will get personnel to scout for artists by attending gigs in north London. While rating venues, if they believe this artist is talented we can have them feature in our magazine. This feature will allow us to develop a link between venues used and the artist featured that month.
UNPLUGGED MAGAZINE FINAL PRESENTATION
Unplugged final pitch script:
Unplugged is a new music magazine that focuses on the genre of acoustic pop.
TITLE:
The name Unplugged was chosen because of its conations of acoustic pop. The name references instruments being disconnected. The font used is called a love story from the website DAFONT.COM. The font is stripped back and represents the genres stripped back theme.
GENRE:
The genre of my product is Acoustic Pop. I have chosen this genre through intensive research as the majority of venues(KOKO, Roundhouse and Hammersmith Apollo) feature either pop or acoustic Musician. For example, The Roundhouse is getting the youth of North London to produce their own music, trying to add talent to the upcoming talent in North London.
Furthermore, there are many acoustic open mics all around London, with people performing every night.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of my magazine is to make those who live in North London learn about the upcoming vibrant music scene by using different artists every month from the genre of pop and acoustic. Freya Ridings will be the first artist that will feature in my publication of magazines. The subsequent issues will feature other upcoming North London musicians. Furthermore, the purpose is to inform North London about the genre of acoustic pop. I will feature a range of venues in future issues such as KOKO and the roundhouse.
FONTS:
Timeless- Timeless will be used for the main part of article writing. It's an easy font to read and not overwhelming for the reader to read. Meaning its perfect for articles. Its simple yet fits the general theme of the magazine. Furthermore, it looks more formal and suited for the social grade c yet has a sense of simplicity.
Vogue- This font will be used for Straplines and headlines. Its a sans serif font which stands out. The fine lines make it look formal but eye-catching.
Love story- Used for title/masthead of my magazine. This title is relatable to the genre as the glitch theme suggests instruments being disconnected representing the acoustic style. In addition, it's simple but eye-catching. This is why this font will be used for my title.
FORM:
I will be creating a print base and an online format for my magazines. Through, intensive Research from a Research group (YouGov). The ‘Magazine Consumption’ report shows that 44% of adults buy and read printed magazines while a further 15% read without buying. Just over one in ten regularly (11%) read online magazines.
CONTENT:
(read out bullet points) What makes my magazine stand out is by using Social media takeovers by artists that feature in my magazine monthly. In addition, there will be a QR code where readers can listen to the top 3 songs by the artist. I will be rating venues along with my staff. The ratings will be based on price, hospitality, staging, food and drink and overall experience.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
I will have a primary and secondary target audience. My primary target audience will be 16-20-year-olds who are female. The reason behind this is from my research. Billboard, who is a major competitor shows that over half of their readers are female. This helped me to select a specific gender as a target audience. Furthermore, there is a huge gap in the market for acoustic style pop. An artist leading this is Ed Sheeran, who may feature in subsequent issues. Those who attend his concerts are generally my target audience.
The reasoning behind 16 being the youngest limit of my target audience, is due to venues allowing that age in. I decided to add social classes to widen my target audience. Billboards readers are mostly 18-30, so including Social grades will involve all those who read music magazines. However, c2 will vary greatly in terms of preferences of fonts and content. By incorporating, the preferences of both Social Grades I will vary my choice of fonts. Moreover, by including the history behind venues this will include more formal language and a chance for readers to enhance their knowledge of North London.
The secondary audience will be aimed at Male and females aged at 25-30-year-olds. This is because this age group attends live music specifically acoustic pop. By having both of these target audiences widen my audience, increasing profitability.
PRICING:
Unplugged will be released monthly and will have 75 pages. The magazine will cost £4 per issue. I believe the price is enough for profitability and affordable for my target audience. It also is cheaper than my competitors. For Example, Billboard magazine costs £7.54. This increases our chance of high sales due to the cheaper option.
DISTRIBUTION METHODS:
(read bullet points) My secondary method will be selling issues in Local Newsagents in North London. This will only be the print base option and will cost £4.
The online and print-based option for the online subscription will be a door to door service delivery. In the online options, people who subscribe will have a chance to win prizes such as concert tickets. This is exclusive to those who buy the subscriptions.
MARKETING METHODS:
I will be using social media platforms to gain exposure for my magazine. These platforms will include snap chat, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. This is because, in the time where the majority use social media daily, it’s the perfect way to gain quick and effective exposure. The artist that will feature in our magazine will advertise it on their social media in return for exposure through Unplugged.
Another method will be distributing posters and leaflets. Posters will be located near schools and universities and in and around venues that feature acoustic poop. By targeting these places, it will be an easy method to increase publicity of the music magazine Unplugged.
MOODBOARD:
This mood board allowed me to generate ideas about themes and colour schemes for Unplugged. It includes examples of my competitors and artists that may feature in subsequent issues.
EQUIPMENT- READ FROM BOARD
PERSONNEL:
Read points. All of the roles will be interns. The reasoning behind this is due to the cost of hiring external staff. Interns will be free and would be working full time. Once our magazine is making a profit I will be offering them permanent jobs at the company. If they are performing well. This makes our budget bigger enabling us to spend more money on advertising Unplugged, allowing the magazine to gain more exposure.
INITIAL SKETCHES:
On the left is my front-page cover and on the right is an example of a double page spread. Generally, the masthead will always be across the top of the page. With the artist for that issue on the front cover, usually a mid-shot. The double page spread is the artist's name across the double page. The main quote from the article would go under. Usually an interview and/or a Q&A.
COMPETITION:
Billboard is a pop magazine with the majority of readers being female. They charge £7.54 per magazine produced weekly alongside their website. Billboard is the world's most influential music media brand.
The acoustic magazine is released monthly and costs £1.99- their pocket mag. However, their subscription summary charges £7.67 with 12 issues over 12 months costing £92.00.
This makes my magazine significantly cheaper in price making readers choose my magazine over my competition.
My USP- READ FROM SLIDE
