Learning outcome 3: D1 (U21): Be able to pitch ideas on a proposed media product and respond to questions

Evaluation of the feedback given by the client:

One of the main points of feedback that I will amend is the changing of fonts. I would be changing the vogue font that was being used for Straplines. It's an explicit requirement that all attributes should be original. As the font vogue is already well established in the magazine industry, I need to reconsider if it suits my magazine. I shall be reconsidering a font that suits the stripped back theme that goes along the font of Love story and timeless. The font Hanging letters will replace vogue as the main font for the straplines used throughout my magazine. The main reason behind this is due to vogue not being original content and is used for the magazine. As it states in the brief, you need to produce original content. Bold and a sans serif font attached to strings makes the hanging letters font stand out. Moreover, it will draw the attention of readers due to the unusual layout of the font. The strings can also be symbolic of the acoustic genre, referring to a string instrument. Vogue's font was not bold and was extremely similar to the other serif font timeless. The straplines are meant to stand out and it shouldn't have the same effect as the font used for article writing. This change gives Unplugged magazine a new aspect and new look to suit the acoustic pop genre, due to the conventions of the strings attached to the text.

Another useful consideration that I would amend is how my readers can access the online editions. There will be links on the print-based format to our website. You simply log in and will be able to access the online edition. As this is a major requirement in the brief ( to have a print-based and online format), this is why I will be making this clear so readers have easy access to the online format. The Online format is extremely appealing to my audience (the primary target audience of 16-20) as they are essentially products of the 'technical generation', this would raise readership and increase the scope for profitability. This correction is due to the client feedback. Another thing I may consider is developing an app where all issues will be easier to access. However, this may happen after my magazine has developed and broken into the industry. This is because of the budget unplugged has at the start-up. If this feature is introduced in the near future our profit will increase as the app is another source of advertising and promotion due to it being available on app stores in all devices.

Moreover, my mood board did not represent the genre of acoustic pop. After listening to feedback from the final pitch presentation I shall make a small adaptation. I recognised that it has a mixed colour scheme and generated confused ideas about the genre of acoustic pop. By adapting the mood board the audience will have a clearer understanding of UNPLUGGED. From feedback, a consideration would be including gender-neutral colours, as from feedback, having selected a specific gender this could exclude some readers. An idea for changing the mood board would be changing the layout and think about the colour scheme. A colour scheme consideration might be light blue, light grey, creme and dark grey. However, this would make my magazine have no clear target audience.

On the other hand, one consideration that I will not amend is the issue about my magazine of being 'gender biased'.  This is because I do include both genders in my secondary target audience. If I included this in the primary audience I would lose a USP as the main competitors of my acoustic side targets both genders. Changing this could lose the audience for my primary target audience. This would impact profitability for my magazine.

If I changed my primary target audience I would need to use gender neutral colours, font, colour schemes and images in order to appeal to both genders. This could create confusion and vague around who is targeting for Unplugged. Therefore, by broadening the audience to male and female this could increase my profitability by widening the audience. On the other hand, the Gantt chart to plan the timing of the production process for the magazine would be significantly impacted. Everything would have to be under review. For example, the colour scheme, content, fashion being used etc. Unplugged may loss the appeal and relatability, as their wouldn't be a specific target audience. This may create confusion as the target audience would be vague and unclear. As unplugged is starting of as a small magazine based in north London, we may not have the availability of staff to ensure that this need is met of having to appeal to both genders. A solution on the other hand, is to include both genders as part of my secondary target audience. Another reason to keep my primary target audience is that of my intensive market research of a major competitor to Unplugged- Billboard. In a recent report, it showed that over half of their readers are in fact female. This is why I choose to have females as my specific gender. Furthermore, I was able to widen my audience by including social grades. Billboard's readers are mostly 18-30, so including Social grades will involve all those who read music magazines.

Another consideration, I will not be considering is changing the genre. The client thought it may be vague and cause confusion of what kind of music falls under this. However, The Acoustic pop music is on the rise, artists like Ed Sheeran are producing this type of music. By blending both of these genres creates a unique selling point.

To conclude, from the feedback by the client on the final pitch I will be making the following amendments. I have taken on board the feedback and will be changing my fonts for Unplugged. In addition, perfecting my website so readers can access the Online Edition and in the near future, an app would be available. The app would feature all editions available for those who have subscriptions. For those who get the app for free would only be able to access a few pages with a glimpse of articles. This feature will intrigue new buyers into purchasing Unplugged. This makes it clear and easy for the reader to access. Lastly, I will adapt my mood board to make sure that it clearly underlines the genre of the acoustic pop genre. All of these changes from the feedback improves my magazine in many ways. It will increase revenue and readership due to an overall polish product.
